Testportal Alternatives

Testportal alternatives are usually wanted for something Testportal leaves out, not because it does the basics badly. It is quick to set up, the interface is tidy, schools get a free plan, and its tab-leave tracking catches the most obvious kind of cheating. People usually start looking elsewhere for one of three reasons: they need a camera or the candidate's screen in the picture, they have outgrown a monthly results cap, or they want pricing that suits their region.

What is in this guide

TunnelQuiz wrote this guide and is one of the options in it. We read each vendor's own pricing and help pages in October 2026 and compared what is available today, not what is on a roadmap. TunnelQuiz is listed first, with its shortcomings spelled out like everyone else's.

Quick Comparison

Prices are the entry figures each vendor publishes, in the currency they show. Where a vendor only quotes, we say so.

How We Compared Them

We looked at four things: what each tool can actually show you about a candidate during the test, whether you can start without paying, what the first paid plan costs and what it is capped by, and who the product is clearly designed for. We did not score tools on features listed as "coming soon", including Testportal's own AI webcam proctoring.

TunnelQuiz

TunnelQuiz is an AI-powered assessment platform for hiring, training and secure online exams. Its tests run in the browser, with multiple-choice, written and coding questions. Every plan, the free one included, asks candidates to share their whole screen and captures it every minute, logs each tab switch with how long the candidate was away, enforces fullscreen and blocks copy-paste. From the Essential plan you also get webcam snapshots, flags for known AI-assistant browser extensions and a live monitoring view; Pro adds multiple-face detection and AI-drafted grading for written answers.

Where it falls short of Testportal: there are no certificates for test-takers, no survey questions, and candidates are asked for more, since they share their screen and need Chrome or Edge (or another Chromium-based browser). There is no ATS integration or public API. If you mainly run classroom quizzes, Testportal's free education plan is the simpler choice; if you need to show what happened during a test, that is what TunnelQuiz records.

ClassMarker

ClassMarker is the closest thing to a like-for-like replacement. It is an online exam maker for businesses and schools, with tab-switch detection, fullscreen enforcement, access by IP address or password, and webcam snapshots during the test. Pricing runs on credits, with two Professional plans of 400 and 1,000 credits a month and one-off credit packs.

Budget for the camera. ClassMarker's pricing page says camera monitoring uses 10 credits an attempt, so a proctored test costs far more than an unproctored one. Prices vary by currency, so check ClassMarker's page for yours. It suits teams who like Testportal's simplicity but want snapshots of the candidate.

ProProfs Quiz Maker

ProProfs is a broad quiz and training suite rather than a dedicated exam tool. The free plan is limited to 8 questions, and Essentials starts at $19.99 a month per 100 active takers. Webcam photo capture, screen recording and tab-switch and copy-paste prevention are on its top Business Complete Elite tier, which is billed annually, and it has separate certification and hiring plans priced per candidate.

It makes most sense when quizzes sit inside a wider training program, with courses and certificates in the same place. For a team that only wants proctored tests, the tier structure takes some working out before you know what a proctored attempt really costs.

FlexiQuiz

FlexiQuiz is a straightforward, inexpensive quiz maker. The free plan allows 20 responses a month and the paid plans start at $17 a month for 500 responses, which is cheaper per response than most of this list.

On Premium and above you can cap tab switching (with warnings, then auto-submit) and restrict access by IP address, and it can turn off right-click and copying. There is no webcam or screen proctoring, so treat it as a replacement for practice tests, training checks and internal quizzes. If you need camera or screen evidence, look elsewhere.

AutoProctor with Google Forms

AutoProctor adds proctoring to quizzes you already build in Google Forms, and its add-on is installed widely in schools. It monitors the camera, microphone and screen share, tracks tab switching and runs face detection. When we checked from India it showed ₹1,350 a month for 150 proctored attempts, with 10 free credits to try it.

It is a good fit for schools and small teams who are already comfortable in Google Forms and do not want to move their questions. The trade-off is that you are running two tools, Forms for the test and AutoProctor for the monitoring, rather than one.

TestGorilla

TestGorilla is a hiring platform first. Its strength is a large library of ready-made skills tests, so you can assess a candidate without writing questions yourself. There is a free plan with 10 credits a month, and the Core plan starts at $215 a month billed annually.

Its anti-cheating is deliberately light. The Trust Layer on every plan logs tab and full-screen changes, blocks known AI agents and asks for an honesty agreement, and its FAQ says it works without webcams. ID verification and ATS integrations are on the Plus plan, from $520 a month. It suits hiring teams who value the test library more than proctoring depth, and it isn't built for school or university exams.

Testlify

Testlify is another hiring assessment platform, with a test library and integrations into applicant tracking systems. The Standard plan is $139 a month billed yearly ($1,668), for 100 credits a year and three seats, after a 7-day trial that does not need a card. It lists snapshot proctoring, tab tracking, face detection, AI-assistance detection and copy-paste tracking, with live video proctoring at $5 an attempt.

It is a strong option for recruitment teams who want their assessments wired into an ATS. For education, or for a team running tests in large batches on a tight budget, the cost of roughly $17 a credit adds up quickly.

Mercer | Mettl

Mercer | Mettl is the enterprise option, widely used in India for large hiring drives, university exams and certifications. It has an AI-based proctoring suite and its own secure exam browser for locked-down tests.

Pricing is by quote and rollouts usually go through a sales process, which is the right fit for a large organization running high-stakes exams. For a small team that wants to run a proctored test this week, it is more than they need.

Which One Should You Choose?

Start from the reason you are leaving Testportal:

  • You need to see the candidate or their screen during the test: TunnelQuiz, ClassMarker or AutoProctor, depending on whether you want one platform, a close swap, or to stay in Google Forms
  • You are hiring and want ready-made tests: TestGorilla or Testlify
  • You run large, high-stakes exams through procurement: Mercer | Mettl
  • You only need cheap, low-stakes quizzes: FlexiQuiz
  • Tests are part of a wider training program: ProProfs

Whichever you pick, run one real test with a handful of candidates before moving everything over. Proctoring that looks fine in a demo can feel very different to a nervous candidate on a slow connection. If tab switching is your main worry, How Does Tab Switching Detection Work? explains what that signal can and cannot tell you.

Questions, answered

Not as of October 2026. Testportal's proctoring page describes AI webcam proctoring that will detect extra people, screen sharing and multiple monitors, but labels it "coming soon". Today its proctoring is Honest Respondent Technology, which tracks when a test-taker leaves the test tab, alongside timers, randomized questions and access codes.

If the gap is proof of what happened during a test, TunnelQuiz captures the candidate's screen on every plan and adds webcam snapshots and live monitoring from Essential. You can try it on the free plan with 50 credits a month.
